Although there is now a considerable literature on the steps schools can take in dealing with cases of bullying, curiously enough there is little information available about what schools actually do, or for that matter, what teachers and counsellors think should be done when they identify bullying going on at their school.
To address this important issue, a questionnaire has been designed for use 'on line' and is being utilised by the University of Arizona in the United States. Responses are being collected from teachers and counsellors in different countries around the world. The questionnaire seeks to find out how staff members in a school would react to a particular case of bullying. The information is being collected anonymously; no names are required.
What can be learned from this study could be very useful in helping those concerned with school bullying (researchers, professional educators and parents) to understand the situation and what needs to be done from a teacher/counsellor point of view. If you are a teacher/counsellor I hope you can help in completing the questionnaire.
It can be accessed by entering http://www.ed.arizona.edu/bullying and, then when asked, by entering a password which is ijime. Your help would be most appreciated.
In due course the results for groups of respondents, but not individuals,
from different countries will be reported in this site.
